Weaning is a journey unlike any other – one full of trepidation, excitement and sometimes utter chaos. It should just be instinct, we should just be born with the ability and in-built knowledge to be able to eat a chip without choking on it. But these are babies we’re talking about and no such instinct exists. You start introducing your tiny one to new and exciting things and you open up the door to a whole heap of trouble.
We are now very much at the end of the weaning journey – we have a toddler who will eat pretty much anything you put in front of him, so long as he’s in the mood and I’ve even got to a stage where I might even turn my back on him whilst he eats his tea. Not for very long, mind. It wasn’t always like that though. Weaning was a tremendous pain in the arse and a process I found a bind almost from start to finish.
So today (Day 9! Jesus) is all about one thing that I can’t live without. I know a lot of people right here stop and say “My kids, my husband, my phone” yadda, yadda and fair enough I agree. I couldn’t live without Wes and Short Rib and would be a bit unstuck without a phone. As the cold nights are drawing in and it starts to get more wintery though, there’s another item I’d be pretty lost without. That, is my slow cooker.
You’ll remember we last did a feature about the Best Barbecue Foods for Your Syns, which got us thinking about booze. There is no barbecue without booze, especially if you’re the one grilling. On Slimming World alcohol is not forbidden like it is on most food plans, but you have to pace yourself and make sensible choices. Always here to provide a service, we have compiled our list of the best alcoholic drinks for your syns.
We have tried to cater for every taste here and limited it to one drink per category (lager, cider, spirits etc) as well as making our choices more suited to the summer barbecue scene. Sorry mulled wine, you’ll have to wait til Christmas. Of course, the choices are huge, especially with the spirits where most are similar syn values, so be sure to let us know your favourite syn-friendly tipple!
Being on Slimming World is hard when you have kids. Like, really, really hard. You pack their lunch every day filled with awesome goodies that you’re dying to nibble on, whilst you look forlornly at the 30g of cereal you’ve diligently weighed for yourself. Your stomach grumbling in frustration as you quickly load them off to school with their lunches before you have chance to swipe that bag of crisps for yourself.
Well, no more! Lunchtime can be awesome for everyone, because with Slimming World you can make lunch for everyone, all eat the same, and all be super satisfied. Here, we give you some inspiration to spruce up your kids’ lunches with home made goodness that you can snack on all day, guilt free. Amazing right? Right. So here they are, our top tips for making Slimming World lunchbox treats that even the kids will love to eat.
It was only when I first seriously started Slimming World three years ago that I realised just how awful marketing was for the average diet. There were so many things that were marketed as being ‘healthy’ that are awful for weight loss. I’d made so many mistakes before following a set plan that it was no wonder that I did nothing but expand for so long. These things are totally out to sabotage your diet and undo all your hard work on those scales!
Service interruption from Wes:
I tasted, deliberated and discussed these drinks with Amy over the last week or so. They’re great, and her review is mostly on the money… I just, as per usual, have a slight difference of opinion: The hot chocs are the hands down winners. I mean, the milkshakes are great and sugar free is greater but that mint and (this one is unfair because I’ve only tried it today without Amy present) hazelnut! Wow. I’m in love. Already placed my order for more (shhh, don’t tell Amy).
Head down towards the end of Amy’s musings for a chance to win a load of mugpod goodness! Woop.
George Clooney has made damn sure that Nespresso machines are all the rage with females everywhere. Having pride of place in the kitchen, the trendy little gadget will keep coffee running through the veins of any tired parent from dawn to dusk. However, what happens if you don’t fancy coffee? Turn the kettle on? Pssh. We’ve got a better idea.
Rather, the guys over at mugpods.com have a better idea. mugpods are the only UK distributor of Nespresso compatible pods that don’t contain the ‘C’ word (well, that’s a lie, they do have some coffee but that’s not what we’re interested in!) instead they offer four flavours of hot chocolate and three awesome flavours of sugar free milkshake. So now even the kids can get their fill of Clooney-approved goodness.
