There. I said it. I’m addicted. I don’t know why or how it started, but now it’s out in the open and a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. My husband’s addicted too so it’s not like he’s much help in all this. We just can’t stop. Sitting there together, just gorging ourselves til we simply can’t do it anymore. Frantically trying to find something else but ultimately coming back to the same thing.
We’re addicted to house hunting shows.
I don’t think I’ve made any secret of the fact that we would love to own our own home one day. I’m pretty confident that it will happen in the coming years (although definitely when we’ve no childcare to pay for!) but for now it isn’t quite within our grasp. To compensate, Wes and I will sit for literally hours and watch other people buy their dream home. Escape to the Country, Homes Under the Hammer and Location, Location, Location coming up on the TV Guide mean an instant switch of the channel. We’ll even branch out to A Place In The Sun or Fantasy Homes By The Sea if we’re feeling exotic. We just cannot get enough of house buying on the television.
Of course we watch other things, Game of Thrones, Bake Off and a plethora of cooking shows but none quite so much as the house hunting. We’ll sit back and fire obscenities in the direction of the picky house hunters. They are invariably from London with absolutely no concept of value for money. We’ll get angrier and angrier at the couples who want a “character” property instead of the amazing modern barn conversion that I’d literally murder Aled Jones for. Instead they’ll go with the manky cottage with low ceilings because it has a wood burner and “amazing views”.
I’m getting kind of fiery just thinking about them actually.
We spend most of it judging the couples on there (not so much judging the houses, which defeats the object of the show). Why? Probably jealousy more than anything. It’s hard to be sympathetic to a couple that wants 30 acres of land for £600,000 of money that isn’t theirs.
For Blogtober today, we had to write about our favourite TV show. Mine is ultimately down to Great British Menu, Game of Thrones and Great British Bake Off. Since they all begin with G, I’m classing them as one show. Jon Snow would definitely make an awesome pie.
So whilst the house hunting shows are my most watched, though may not be my absolute favourite . I’m not sure if I’m house hunting for the future or just like judging the people doing the buying. I just can’t stop watching them.
I could be addicted to worse things…
